Just enjoy it is my advice, I do especially when riding through tunnels, in town and when passing obnoxious car
drivers or even bikers

True backfiring is when the engine fires back through the carbuetor
What is refered to here is afterburning i.e. a collection of unburnt or partially burnt
gasses collecting in the muffler
Cause: the closing of the throttle with the engine reving, lowering the compression ratio
causing a slower burning of the air fuel mixture some of which escapes to the exhaust
system unburnt. This gas collects then explodes. Cars overcome this by having a vacum advance
on the ignition system. This compensates for the slower burning by advances the spark i.e. starting
the burning sooner.
Big singles are more prone to this problem than multi cyclinders. Air/fuel adjustments, ignition timing,
engine condition, muffler type and condition all have an influence on this.

Hope this has been of some use
ride safe and ride custom
